During the past month I have been more consistent with my product use then I have for as long as I can remember. Why? Because the products I am using are actually darned working. I know, a small miracle (which is not entirely conducive to my Instagram routine posts) but when you have skin like mine, it looking healthy is a bigger addiction that playing with a multitude of different products.
I’ve had this for a while, having bought it alongside my Su-Man set back in November. I used it on an off (at least a couple of times a week) for ages, then gradually stopped. It’s not because I didn’t like it, I just didn’t know where it fit into my routine. I purposefully have never let myself get lost down the rabbit hole of K Beauty – I don’t think my wallet or skin would tolerate all the layers! However, I recently started watching Renee from Gothamista’s videos and started to understand a bit more about essences. Suddenly this Su-Man gem slotted into place and since I’ve started using it again I hardly ever reach for my hydrating spritzes. I only use it in the morning (choosing Jordan Samuel Hydrate as an evening alternative), and mixed with the next product in this favourites list, it makes a gorgeous, hydrating and surprisingly smoothing first step in my routine.
Another essence (I know – I need to control myself!). After my recent vitamin C fails (see this post) this caught my eye because a) Nathalie from Road to Glow raved about it and b) it contains a lot of great brightening and antioxidant ingredients; niacinimide, arbutin, a vitamin C derivative. The reason I like this so much, other than the fact it works, is because it’s so easy to incorporate into my routine. There are no other products it conflicts with (in ingredients or texture), it’s really light and makes an awesome first step. As I’ve said, I mix it with the Su-Man in the morning as my first step post-cleanse. The results aren’t immediate or mind blowing, but after a while you will look in the mirror and think “huh – something just looks… better”.
I’ve been aware for a while now that my skin is highly sensitised and the barrier function is compromised. It’s why I purchased the Stratia Skin Liquid Gold (see my February Favourites) and it’s why I decided to give this serum a go after seeing Nathalie talk about it (yes – she is the ultimate Paula’s Choice enabler). I saw a difference in my skin after about a week of using this. My tell-tale sign that my skin is unhappy (other than actual breakouts) is bad under-skin congestion and this serum has improved it enormously. It’s another one that slots very nicely into my routine (I just use it in the evenings) and I definitely won’t be without it.
I had my eye on this for a long, long time and finally got my hands on it via the Beauty Heroes box (see this post). This is a very light, almost dry, oil that contains some mega ingredients, chia seed oil and astaxanthin which is “clinically proven to have 65X the strength of Vitamin C to fight free radicals”. Because it is so light, I use it like a serum rather than a moisturising oil. I do think it has helped, along with the Paula’s Choice essence, to brighten my skin, even its tone and just make it look so healthy. Can’t complain about that!
