I recently mentioned on Instagram that I was giving up facial oils for a week and lots of people were interested why. Those who have become familiar with my skincare preferences will know that not using oils for a whole week is a big deal for me.
I have always struggled with moisturisers, primarily because all of those occlusive ingredients wreak havoc on my acne prone skin. I’ve found a couple that work for me, Clinique Moisture Surge Intense and Chanel Hydra Beauty Creme, but they are quite light and I’ve frequently felt like they are not enough. I do also use the Stratia Liquid Gold, which is a light lotion that contains moisturising ingredients and some oil, but again it felt too light to be used alone. So, usually, I would add a drop or two of a facial oil either under or over my moisturiser morning and night, but more recently I’ve forgone moisturisers all together because I just felt like they weren’t doing anything.

For those of you that follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my posts about the chaos that was the Christchurch Mecca Maxima opening.
In New Zealand we get our beauty fix from Mecca. We have Mecca Cosmetica (think Space NK – white, luxurious, $$$) which has been in Christchurch for as long as I have been here. It’s pretty awesome, covers all the bases (Nars, Dr Dennis Gross, By Terry, Bumble and Bumble and even Kate Somerville) and is well priced again overseas RRPs.
Last month Mecca Maxima opened its first NZ shop in Christchurch. Maxima is Cosmetica’s younger sister. Think Sephora – ‘cool’ brands, chaotic and an kick-ass aisle of doom (seriously – travel sized Kate Somerville Nourish. I die).

I cannot believe it’s less than a month until Christmas. Where the hell has 2016 gone (not that any of us will be sad to see back of this annus horribilis).
I know everyone’s probably fatigued post Black Friday, but I didn’t buy anything so I’m itching for my Christmas time splurging!
I am heading home to England for Christmas which is my annual opportunity to ransack the local Boots, spends hours in Selfridges and in general stock up on more products that my face could ever possibly need.
Since starting this blog my wishlist has been growing at a rapid speed. So when my Grandmother started asking what I wanted for Christmas on 4th October (one day after my birthday), I started to take a more considered approach to thinking about what I actually wanted/needed (‘needed’ – haha, as if!).
I have managed to curate my list down to the following. I don’t think I will honestly get all of these over the Christmas/New Year period, but these are probably my priority for the next six months.

So, we reach the last few steps of the skincare routine. I’m afraid things get a little less exciting here as me and the ‘creamy’ products don’t have the best relationship. Hopefully you find a few useful tips and product suggestions!

So I did some hauling – as you do when you first start a beauty blog. There is just so much new goodness to be discovered and it’s very hard to resist. This is a bit of a mixed bag – some things I love, some I’m still deciding on and some that are teetering dangerously close to my donation bag…
